Upon hearing around 7 am that Sandy Creek was down (the school principal had said, "Sandy's up and down like a yo-yo!"), we immediately made plans to skedaddle. We got out safely, crossing all of the many creeks, most with ominous names like "Skull Creek" and "Surprise Creek" and "Lost Creek".
We hit very little rain and had a generally uneventful trip back.

Eyal and I always knew that it would be difficult building a family from
two different countries. It is just now, however, that we have to really
put that ...

When I first read this I wondered, 'What is skedaddling?" But then I realized you were just talking about "leaving." I wanted it to be some interesting sport involving flooded creeks and a ball of some sort, maybe teams even.

Now I want "skedaddling" to be a game too. Maybe you could work out the rules? Perhaps you could make it a non-competitive game that can be played by people of all ages?
It's a shame you didn't have to pass Dawson's Creek
I'm afraid I don't get this reference. It sounds vaguely familiar, like a TV show maybe? Please elucidate!
I didn't write that but I do know that Dawson's Creek is a T.V show (one of my housemates in Chico was obsessed with the lead female actress and religiously watched every episode, and when he had other obligations, his mother recorded it for him and sent him the copies!) but I don't really get it either. I was under the impression Dawson's Creek was in Ohio or somewhere in the US.
As for the game of skedaddle, I say it should involve a big, rubber ball, like those red ones you used for 4-square in elementary school. I wonder if you sat on one in water, would it hold you up? If so, I'm thinking everyone should be required to sit on one while playing, kind of bobbling atop it in the water. As far the rules go and how to play, I'm still working on that.

Maybe there should be crocodiles involved...
Skedaddling definitely has to involve the use of a paddle, one of those wooden ones with a ball attached by rubber band! Or a larger version with the big rubber ball attached...
Mom, you're so cute! Maybe you hold the skedaddle paddle in your hand and maybe you have to sit on the big red rubber ball and for that you need a skedaddle saddle. At some point people need to be shouting "fiddle-faddle!" too.
I can't wait to be somewhere I can play this. In my world, these are all the essential ingredients for fun: red bouncy balls, flooded creeks, paddles, friends, and definitely shouting things like "fiddle faddle skedaddle!" It doesn't even have to be all these things at once, but now there's finally a way to incorporate them all! Do you anticipate any flooding when I'm there?
