I hear ya on the empty space thing. I've now changed it again (as you can see).
There was something about the simplicity of the old layout that was nice. However, I like having the separate box/bar on the right in this layout and also the fact that the text goes around the pictures instead of through them. I wish I could change the color of the comments bar, the color of the background behind the boxes, and I wish I could center the page title, but since I'm working with limited templates, I think I'll stick with this for a little while and see how it goes.
Like the changes, and agree re: comments bar etc. Gotta respect the urge to redecorate!

The other format seemed warmer, but rearranging the furniture every once in a while is a good thing.
